KCP offers to try new things while using your new language skills.
Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?
The overnight field trip was a fantastic opportunity to see and experience things that I otherwise wouldn't have had the chance to. The 運動会 was another really fun event. I feel both not only allowed us the chance to take part in different kinds of Japanese culture, but it also strengthened the bonds between classmates.
Why did you select this program?
From everything I found online, KCP had the best academic reputation. I also chose it based on its location (out of Shinjuku), and the fact there was no mandatory homestay.
What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?
While I found class as a whole to be informative and interesting, the best part for me was what happened outside of class. There are a lot of really great people from all over the world studying at KCP, and many opportunities to make new friends through the Japanese language. I liked living in a place where I could use what I was learning at any time and the opportunities KCP offers to try new things while using your new language skills (cooking classes, etc).
What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?
Pair work was very helpful to me, since it took some of the pressure off of going one by one around the room in front of the class, or even the anxiety of raising a hand to ask the sensei a question. Though there were quite a lot of tests, I felt they were helpful as well.
What did you find most valuable in the Culture Course?
The opportunity to see things I would not have independently sought out.

Ikebukuro
Were you pleased with the general living arrangements? Anything you especially liked? Any problems you experienced?
I absolutely love living in Ikebukuro. The location is perfect, and though the rooms are small, it was certainly manageable. The dorm manager is very friendly , and though I never had a need to, I didn't feel hesitant about talking to him if I had a problem with something in the dorm. I like the common room set up, since there the students had a chance to convene and talk, study, and watch TV. I was also VERY happy to have my own kitchen area.
Any further thoughts or tips for those considering the program or new KCP students?
The program is a great experience, one that I wouldn't trade for anything. But it is very hard work. There's no escaping it, so just be ready for it.
